The chrome clamps do not offer as strong a grip on the bar and therefore should not be used for any other purpose. ![]() However, the chrome spring clamps should be used only for EZ curl bars. The black ‘Muscle Clamps’ are also general purpose and can be used on any Olympic-style bar. They offer a strong grip on the bar, and the red lever handle makes it easier to visually confirm the clamps are on. They’re very easy to get on or off the bar and are great for bench pressing, EZ bar curls, shrugs, etc. These clamps are best for bench work and/or general use. These clamps will not pop open or come loose when properly installed on a bar. Also, when racking a squat bar hard into the rack, or performing several reps of deadlifts, some clamps may ‘spring’ loose. They offer maximum clamping grip, giving you assurance that weight plates will not force the clamp off in the event the bar is tilted toward one end. These style of clamps (photo above) are best for squats and deadlifts.
